Launched in 2018, Campeones Cup is an annual clash between the champions of Major League Soccer and Liga MX.
Campeones Cup is a foundational element of the landmark partnership between MLS and LMX — the two top soccer leagues in North America. Along with Leagues Cup, it is one of several on-field competitive events developed to showcase and heighten the rivalry between the leagues. At the same time, Campeones Cup is a centerpiece for collaborative efforts off the field, including a special focus on social responsibility to drive positive change.
The 2019 edition of Campeones Cup will be played at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on August 14. Reigning MLS Cup champions Atlanta United will face-off against the winner of the Campeón de Campeones, Club América.
2018: The inaugural edition of Campeones Cup was played on September 19, 2018, at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario. The match featured MLS Cup champions Toronto FC and Liga MX champions Tigres UANL. Tigres won 3-1, thanks to two goals from Jesús Dueñas and an own goal from TFC’s Eriq Zavaleta. The Reds goal was scored on a penalty by Lucas Janson.
